to safeguard your interests |
In order
to guarantee the availability and integrity of your Internet servers and
avoid the risk of a security breach they must be examined for vulnerabilities
on an ongoing basis. Why is it important for these checks to be performed
regularly rather than once off? There a number of reasons:-
- Software
anomalies. Software has bugs and the more complex the software the more
bugs there are likely to be (this also applies to your firewall and
router!). A proportion of those bugs will be security related (as testified
to by the ever increasing stream of application security related alerts).
If these bugs are maliciously exploited your organisation can suffer
adverse business consequences.
- System
misconfiguration. Often your Internet servers and applications require
configuration changes such as the addition of new users, the addition
of a new application service or a configuration enhancement. These changes
are often accidentally misconfigured, usually in complete ignorance.
This regularly leads to unforeseen system behaviour which can, for example,
result in unauthorised system access.
- System
maintenance or upgrade. Throughout the operational life of an Internet
application and its host server patches will need to be applied, new
features added, improvements made and general maintenance performed.
With the best will in the world such changes are rarely tested exhaustively.
This can leave loopholes in the system's operation which, if exploited,
can result in a range of adverse business consequences.
By adopting a sound organisational security policy and having your Internet servers and applications regularly vulnerability scanned you stand the best chance of minimising the likelihood of a security breach. To assist in this task Westpoint Limited offers a range of cost effective vulnerability scans:-
- The
Enterprise+
Scan
designed to reduce your window of vulnerability
to the latest threats..
- The
Enterprise
Scan
designed for all your internet connected servers.
- The
Subnet
Discovery Scan
ensuring that no unauthorized devices
appear on your internet connected networks.
- The
Desktop
Scan
designed for home workers and 'always on' connections.
All the above scans can be complemented with our Additional Services, such as our DNS name poisoning alert service, if required.
